House behind me broken into twice. Not that long ago, helicopter and cops circling house, suspects had broken into house/garage and holed up after fleeing the police. We've had a house invasion in my neighborhood about 1.5 yr ago, I have a neighbor two houses down who said until recently he had a car stolen or broken into every year. Our LDS neighbors next street over had their car broken into and a semester's worth of law school notes stolen.
I've been robbed of some equipment I have left outside.
That's just the tip of the iceberg. For those of us in the REAL WORLD, self-defense is a REAL concept.
One more: 20 pound stone through my father's car's back window overnight in front of my home.
