Plus he was theoretically chosen by the people, for whatever reasons motivated them to vote. Palin was appointed by one man and his advisors primarily because of her gender, secondarily because of her religious beliefs, and tertiarily because of her ANWR stance. None of that has anything to do with her own merit.
