my parents have a cheap old tandem (schwinn or something). We went riding a few weeks ago. I was on my own bike. I took them to the steepest hill in the area, to see how they would do (didn't tell them first of course). They did surprisingly well. But then they asked to not do another one.
My mom has great technique as the stoker. She props her legs up on the frame and just sits there half the time. No need to touch the pedals. LOL.
