I guess it's not that big of a deal then.

I have a couple of friends who were steamed that church funds (their tithing, so to speak) were going to this. Heretofore, it was encouraging private donations. Even if it's a donation in kind, the church is now openly financially involved. And my friends feel that since they pay money to the church, they are now somehow implicated. While I - and they - recognize that once you put the money in the little gray envelope you surrender all rights to how that money is spent, it's a little depressing to see money (even if it's only a relatively tiny amount) consecrated to God going to fund this issue.
