this is exactly what happened where i live -- except that the area authority seventies were involved -- and there was also the fireside with apostles -- and even a thank you note read last week from apostles.
but, in end, the please participate if you can and want to -- got turned quickly into "you are unworthy of Jesus/Church/membership/etc if you don't" by a few. and by a few, i mean most.
