I am not sure how God will judge homosexual behavior. I am not sure how God will judge a failed lifetime of heterosexual celibacy either.
Yes it is a sin in the same sense that heterosexual sex out of marriage is a sin, but I don't think any of us know for certainty how God will judge these people.
I can envision the Savior's atonement more than covering any demands for justice these people may face.
