This is what I meant by metro area. Mesa is technically its own town, but it's part of Phoenix metro. By contrast, St. Louis isn't even on the list (Mesa is technically more populous), but I promise St. Louis metro is much larger than Mesa.

As you point out, Dallas shows up as 8th. But if you combine DFW and the rest of its metro areas, I guarantee it shows up much higher, maybe 3rd or 4th.
