I understand that it is traditional in places like Utah with high densities of Mormons. But it feels more like Utah-centric Mormonism that ignores the realities of "the mission field" (a stupid phrase).
I ignored the lesson and didn't give it.

It does seem Utah-centric. I've never seen it done, either. I woudl guess it's to give teenages boys something to do, and maybe it yields better results because you are being asked for a direct donation.
