During the last AWB, the guns and mags that were purchased before the ban were grandfathered in as legal, and became colloquially known as "pre-ban" guns. These guns instantly went up in value.
Now, because Cali is listening, and wants to know the regulations of every locale, not just the federal regulations, I should add that the Republik of Kalifornia has draconian anti-"Assault" Weapons laws on the books right now, such that possession in certain configurations is ILLEGAL. Mere possession of a gun that you may have bought 20 years ago.
I suspect that a future Assault Weapons Ban, if it passes, will be much more draconian than the last.
