Did we read the same article? Talk about overreaction. Put down your pitchforks.
The financial industry did not take over the government, and the article doesn't say as much. The coup came in the accretion of importance to the nation's economic well-being; that is, the banks became too big to fail, and so they could hold politicians hostage. "If we go down, we're all going down, Mr. Hoover." That's the coup that's taken place.
The fix is easy. "Bust the trusts," so to say, by delineating banking activities among separate types of organizations like we had before.
You conspiracy theorists need to give it a rest.
