Default Hit pieces on Newt as dangerously weird and mentally ill

Weisberg, you may recall, is the guy who wrote a really nasty hit piece against Mormonism years ago, that I commented on CG.

Significant is the suggestion that Newt's mother has acknowledged bipolar illness. Did the apple not fall far from the tree?

Weisberg is being weasely, and tries to argue that he is taking the high road.

I don’t mean to make light of mental illness, which is a tragic thing and more effectively treated today than in the era depicted in The Marriage Plot. But if the Republicans nominate Newt Gingrich over Mitt Romney, they really do need their heads examined.
And here's a particularly nasty piece from Ann Coulter.

I have to admit that I chuckled at times during this piece.

Do I think Newt Gingrich is too unhinged to be the leader of the free world? Hell yes! Putting that man in as Commander in Chief scares the hell out of me. I think I read somewhere recently a quote from him about going to war with Hezbollah. Screw that!

Anyway, the point is that as the Newt insurgency becomes real, I think we are going to see a lot more of this kind of thing. But will it matter? These are just the talking heads. What about the down-in-the-trenches NASCAR voters who don't read articles of any kind? This is a time where demagoguery works (see Herman Cain), and Gingrich is good at it.

Whereas Romney couldn't inspire a hay ride, much less a revolution.

I fear for this country if Gingrich is elected President.
