It has taken me awhile to appreciate a good sandwich. When I was little, my mom would pack pb and honey sandwiches in my lunch. The problem? She made them on thick slices of dry, heavy homemade wheat bread, and put natural peanut butter (she drained the oil, so it was very dry) and a little honey on them. Not good. I had better luck when she made onigiri or a bento box type lunch.

For a good sandwich, the bread is as important as anything you put on it. With all the Vietnamese immigrants here, they've invented this Vietnamese sandwich that's pretty good. Crusty baguette, deli meat, vegetables that are slightly pickled in a fish sauce/vinegar/soy mixture and hot peppers.
