I've tried my hand at homemade bbq sauce before. Basically I put all the ingredients together and let it simmer all day on the stove or in a crock pot.
I didn't really use any measurements just sort of winged it. But here are the ingredients I used:
tomato paste/puree, vinegar, molasses/honey (depending on how sweet you want it), olive oil, liquid smoke, chopped onions, crushed garlic, chopped red pepper, chili powder, salt, black pepper, lemon juice, brown sugar (if you want it sweet), worchestershire sauce. I think thats all. I just let it cook for a long time and it tasted pretty good.
