Whether torture at all is appropriate or not under any circumstances is a different question, which seems to be the one under the microscope now.

It appears to be a very unpleasant tactic that should not be used from what I can tell based on his histrionic presentation.
However, it does introduce a question for those sensitive to extraordinary interrogation techniques as to what forms of psychological pressures are appropriate.
I suspect somebody with a full belly, who has never experienced close death to due violence of another, can sit sipping Cafe lattes and come to a different conclusion than a forty year CIA veteran.
