I've done some alpine climbing.

It all depends on the experience of the climbers. I have some friends who make "mid winter" summit attempts, some are strictly summer guys.

Doing a peak in winter just adds a whole other degree of difficulty and gives bragging rights. Kind of like saying you did a century ride on a single speed.

Personally... I'm not a fan. Even some of the "easy" peaks (Timp, Kings, Deseret, Lone Peak, etc...) become extremely technical in the winter.
