Default LDS church comes out supporting national gay marriage law

I think it's mainly about saying "we are fair partners and reasonable, but we want the right to do exactly as our religion sees fit, and to not allow gay marriage in our own religion, and to be able to excommunicate (and discriminate in religious employment) as we see fit."

There is a strong argument that religions ought to be able to have their own views on the matter.

However it does not solve the theological blank space of why gayness exists in the first place. Nor does it solve the suffering of those gay LDS persons who have felt abandoned and rejected.
