Default Tyler Haws, the least loved BYU superstar ever

Haws, barring injury, will end up being the top scorer in BYU and WCC history.

Yet he seems to only attract appreciation and not adoration.

He's the scrappy kid who can score. He has that pure mid-range stroke. But he fails the excite the imagination. Even among the people rooting for him and his team.

Why?

He's not an alpha dog. He can't take over in big games. He cannot impose his will on other teams. Jimmer could. Tyler can't.

He's not a winner. This isn't entirely fair. Because winning is a function of more than just a single player. But these teams have not been great, and have lost most of the big-time games.

He's not complete. He is only a scorer. He's a negative on the defensive end, due to his size and athleticism at the 3 position.

He has no chance of competing at the next level. Unlike all the prior BYU greats. Jimmer, Ainge, Durrant, Roberts, Michael Smith, etc.

...

We should love him for who he is. The "middle child" of BYU greats. Great in his own way. But not truly great. We shouldn't blame him for what he isn't. He can't help that. We should appreciate how he utilized the talents he possessed. Because he truly has magnified them.

For the iconic Haws shot is that 15 footer fade-away jumper. He leans in, goes up, fades, and pure as a temple laundromat, barely grazes the net.
