The Captcha system has been cracked
Thus leading to spambot registrations. I changed the captcha to another system, but it's probably cracked as well. This happens from time to time. It's like an arms race between the code developers and the spammers.
In the meantime, I have added a customized field on the registration page which should slow these suckers down. (a human will have to read the question and answer it, at least I hope).
