Not exactly how I would put it. But if you want to influence the church, then be in the church. Don't leave the church. It may mean that you are removed from the church, but that can lead to change as well.

A little brusk, but he makes a valid point:

I think no one should resign. I think it is a great service to the LDS Church, and to the world that the church continues to wound, to make people in the church choose to excommunicate their friends and family in every single case. I think the process should be difficult and miserable, and that the folks who would cleanse their church should be forced to look into the eyes of each person they want to eliminate and say, "We don't want you."

Why make it easy for them to clean house? Make it difficult, because somewhere in the recesses of somebody's mind, there might be compassion and sometime in the distant future somebody might remember it and change a heart or two.
