I'm kind of laughing at the speculation that Kaufusi will quit basketball for football because of the realization that he might not be NBA material nor a starter for BYU.

Umm, why in the world would Kaufusi expect to be a pro prospect with so little experience, so little basketball IQ? Because he has some height. Guys his height are a dime a dozen. His athleticism would not even be average in the NBA for his position.

Stick with what you got and try to improve. If you don't want to compete, then quit.
Kaufusi did have the raw ability and size to be a pretty good college basketball player. The problem is that football players generally have very poor basketball instincts. They have to love basketball growing up as much as football or they never pick them up usually. He could have kept working at it and did at times show improvement, but maybe his patience was running out and the writing was on the wall for him with the players BYU has coming back next year.
