1. Just leave and never look back.
2. Give a brief reason but not putting the blame on any one person. 3. Go down with guns blazing and take out everybody you can. I'm just curious what the correct etiquette is for leaving.

A very good question RCV. We've seen all three methods used effectively and probably some more if we really thought about it.
While method #3 is by far the most entertaining (see Outlier), it is rarely used, I think because of its finality. Once you make your grand exit, its hard to ever come back, regardless of the reason. I suspect pride is at the core of why. Most of these exitors typically become chronic lurkers with their browser mode set to invisible. Method #1 is a good way to draw attention back to yourself when you search the arhcives for your name several months later, especially if you have a prolific history of posting (see Fusnik). It takes a lot of willpower, and has been attempted several times unsuccessfully by other posters. I think most people would agree that Method #2 is the gentlemens way of leaving the board. Most common reasons cited are being too busy at work to waste time on the board, or participating (usually in the religion section) brings out the worst in themself. Most of these usually come back in a more gentle and subdued form, and the board is usually better for it. |

That's kinda what I was thinking. I hate it when these things turn personal and someone like Lingo feels he needs to leave but I really expected more from him and his good-bye message.

No question. Particularly for a moderated board like CB. Think suicide by cop.

He'll be back. It's just a matter of time.

It worked for Santos, although he mistakenly burned his bridges behind the scenes via boardmail instead of detonating his nuke on the board, which would have then been read by 20 or 25 people before being deleted.

Actually the best slash and burn was when someone posted an awful porn picture involving excrement, that was up for an hour, and then took CB completely down. Wiped it off the server.
It was illegal, but memorable. |

1, 3 or 4.
I have successfully employed 1, but 4 might also be attributable to me, if one credits Mike's work in even a small part to me. I gave no notice, but simply left because its use had outlived its usefulness.
