What do you consider an "arsenal"?

According to the AP, an arsenal is 2 shotguns, a rifle, and a box of .22.

A man accused of running down and shooting an Illinois pastor to death mid-sermon left an arsenal of guns in his bedroom as well as an index card marked "Last Day Will."

The arsenal in accused gunman Terry Sedlacek's room included two 12-gauge shotguns, a rifle and a box of 550 .22-caliber bullets, according to court documents filed Tuesday.

I'm not sure that a large quantity is necessarily the criteria for whether the term arsenal can be used or not.

I called the author Terrr Suhr, he works in the St. Louis AP bureau.

When I respectfully told him that it was an unfair characterization of what an arsenal is, and how my gun collection vastly outnumbers this guys, he apologized. I told him that I own several guns, shoot recreationally, but don't even hunt and basically punch paper with mine. I told him that the press has a habit of characterizing gun owners in a negative light and describing a few rifles as an arsenal, is way over the top.

"I can see your point, It was an unfair characterization, and I will make sure that I don't ever do so in the future again, I was kind of caught up in the carnage that this guy caused, i'm not making excuses though, I was wrong."


I spoke respectfully and didn't want to come off as being angry, and he was very respectful and responded in kind. I guess that when you think about a person that probably has had no experiences with guns, 500 rounds of ammo probably represents 500 potential deaths.


If I lived near St. Louis, I would contact him again and invite him out to shoot at a range, he actually sounded like a really nice guy, if anyone around here feels so inclined pm me, and I can give you his direct line.

http://www.gunfacts.info/index.html, held a seminar of sorts during the SAF/RTKBA conference and encouraged us to contact reporters on stuff like this, invite them out to shoot and demistify the "gun culture"...he has had a lot of success doing so.

I suppose an arsenal of weapons is relative. Those who choose not to own weapons might consider an arsenal as being a couple of guns with a few boxes of ammo.

But Mike is correct about it being sensationalism.

I'm just trying to see it through the eyes of one who hates the 2nd Amendment.
