Lauren Wilcox of the Washington Post gives a great explanation of the Priesthood ban in that piece. I wonder if The Church is using that with Rev. Al today.

Here is the Washington Post Magazine piece she wrote:

Thanks for the article link, noah--that was pretty cool. A couple of quotes that struck me:

I said something similar to this on this very board a few days ago. I don't like referring to my black colleagues or ward members as black people. They're just people. Interesting to see how perspectives change once a dialogue gets opened.

For all the rancor on Cougarguard and in the media about our "racist" prophets, one thing I'll say for certain: the gospel of this Church will take the "ghetto out of the black man," to borrow a cliche, faster than anything else.

To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.
