NYT on Mormonism
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/13/op...&smid=fb-share
A poorly written article by somebody claiming a relationship with Yale. It's hard to believe somebody who attempted to review the religion got so little from his research. This is supposed to be by Harold Bloom? Geeze he's really turned sour on LDS.

He must be abusing prescription drugs.
I have a friend who majored in literature at Yale, and described Bloom as known to be a morally disgusting man. Not that that has any bearing on this article, other than he may be someone to really not care for the socially conservative taking a prominent place in America. Hence his endorsement of the irreligious Obama. |

It's an internally inconsistent, invalid series of arguments that the writer should know better. It appears to be a piss-poor argument to support his own political candidate by distorting what he knows to be the truth.
Bloom just plummeted as a literary critic. I thought literary critics were supposed to be able pen coherent sentences.

What part of his argument don't you guys agree with? Do you just not like that he's bagging on your candidate?
Sig changed.

Some of his criticisms are valid, and have been discussed before. Mainstreaming efforts by the LDS hierarchy, distancing from "gnostic" Mormonism and Joseph Smith.
This piece is written like he he was drunk, wanted to write a hit piece on Romney, pulled down a copy of his "The American Religion" and slopped some sentences together. If he was not drunk when he wrote that, I would assume that means that he generally uses a pretty remarkable editor, and didn't use the editor for that piece. |

Come on, guys. Bloom is just voicing what all the Milquetoast Mormons have been saying for years. You guys should be drinking deeply from this.

Yeah, he was drunk. I missed that the first time around for some reason.
