Default I bought a new iPod yesterday

One of the new iPod classics. I was torn between the Touch and the Classic, but 80 GB for $250 was tough to pass up. I've got all my music and 5 movies on the thing and I still have almost 25 GB left to fill up.

There are some new features that are really cool. I think how you can have folders in the iPod for your playlists, which makes scrolling through a ton of playlists easier. The interface on the songs is different as well, but I like it.

I really like the video feature as the picture quality is pretty dang good. I'm going to try and get a program tonight to download YouTube videos onto the iPod and see how that works. I'm really hoping to put some BYU football highlights on there.

45 gb, assuming about 4mb per song, is about 11,000 songs.

At $1 a song, whether bought by CD or electronically, is of course $11k.

Lots of people have much larger music collections, and probably there are lots of people that did not pay for each and every song.

Just like in the old days when we would make copies of tapes for our friends.

Even ripping a DVD that you own for your own use, onto your ipod is legally questionable (because you have defeated the encryption).

Probably most of us are guilty of at least an infraction or two.

I honestly don't see why anyone would buy the Touch until the price comes way down. I just don't think the price is justified when the storage capacity is so much smaller. I just don't care about wi-fi on an mp3 player.

I may have to convert over to iPod video here shortly. I've loved my Creative Zen Vision:M, mostly because it's subscription compatible and plays so many more video formats, but they're not going to make hard drive players anymore. The newest Zen will max out at 16 gigs, which isn't nearly enough room.

The thinking behind the touch would be for my wife to use when she is at school so that she could use it to check email, chat with me while I'm at work, etc. Plus the screen size is nice. My dad has an iPhone and it is a slick gadget. I like the interface, but that downside is the storage size. 16 GB just isn't enough for as much crap as I have, and I don't want to pay $400 for that.
