Bonds > A-Rod
Those who think Bonds is just here to hit HRs are wrong.
Look at this year's leaders in OPS (a much better run-predictor than AVG). Bonds 1.093 A-Rod 1.047 Ordoñez 1.026 driven mostly by Bonds' 125 BBs. Since OBP is out of 1.000 and SLG 4.000, we should weight them differently. When we use best-fit OPS (1.75*OBP + SLG), and adjust for park, we get: Bonds 1.490 Ordoñez 1.351 A-Rod 1.328 Hence Bonds is contributing much more in run production than A-Rod and it's not even close. (the one thing I didn't factor in is fielding, which I don't know how. Maybe Bond's huddy fielding offsets better plate performance, but I doubt it.)

Bonds is, without question, the greatest player of my generation. He's like the modern day Ty Cobb - a world class dickhead with more talent than decency.
That said, I'd still take A-Rod because of the overall package. Bonds defense in his early days was actually very good, but he's decided that hitting home runs is more important. A-Rod can hit, play defense and is younger.

Question on Bonds. Let's say he's been off steroids for at least two years. Would he still be enjoying a steroids effect today?
