Default Too early to call Beck a bust?

I thought he would have a tough time adjusting to the NFL, given that he never appeared to be a natural transitioning from high school to college (unlike Detmer for example).

That El Paso Coug is worried that his thousands of dollars invested in Beck memoribilia and rookie cards might be worthless, kind of gives me perverse pleasure.

He's started what, 3 games?

I wouldn't say he is a flop. If this was his 4th year and he had a good offensive line and decent receivers and run support and did the same, then he'd be a flop.

Beck is the sacrificial lamb right now.

You're joking, right? He steps in for his first start with a team that's already what, 0-9, and he's supposed to play savior?

Beck's getting a trial-by-fire for sure, and he may well bust, but I think we're WAY premature in making that assessment now.

How did Steve Young do in Tampa Bay? Comparable situations?

He started one game against a very good team in a downpour and played about as well as Roethlisberger. If I'm evaluating a QB, I pretty much throw that game out the window.

He played poorly in his next start - there is one strike against him.

He threw 2 passes before he was pulled in his next start.

Not only is it way too early to label him a bust, but Cameron hasn't given him a fair shot. One bad game doesn't not make a bad QB.

I've never been very impressed with Beck, even at BYU, but the Dolphins owe him more than a couple games before they make a judgement.

Not only do they owe him more than a couple of games, they owe him more than a couple of games with a decent supporting cast. I wouldn't call the current group of receivers, running backs, and O-line a decent supporting cast.

Obviously way to early to call him a bust; however, because of his age, I think Beck may be under pressure to become good quicker than your average QB.

QBs who are younger than Beck:

Ben Roethlisberger
Jay Cutler
Derek Anderson
Philip Rivers
Jason Campbell
Vince Young
Alex Smith

Others, such as Eli Manning, are less than a year older than him.

When Steve young was Beck's age, he was already through with Tampa, and on the Niners (but, of course, didn't become the starter for another 4 years or so).

I can't believe this is even a thread topic.

When even Ute fans will defend him, it's way too early.
