The Yiddish Policemen's Union
I started reading it this week. It's alt history/pulp fiction. A cop-crime drama set in a fictional Jewish metropolis on the Gulf of Alaska.
The backdrop: Israel is a failed state (back in '48). During WWII the US gives Jews land in Alaska as temporary sanctuary. Germany beats Russian in WWII, because they can focus on the war, not the holocaust (the Jews migrated out). Germany is later distroyed with nukes. The US was in a 'Cuban War' in the 60s. The main character is a grizzled, alcoholic cop, trying to solve a string of unsolved murders...it's 60 years after WWII and the enclave is about to be returned to Alaskan State control. It's good, so far...

The subject line gave me the impression that you were going to post about a Monty Python skit.

Looks like it will be a Coen Brothers movie too, someday.

Give us a review when you are done. I read his first book ("The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay") and enjoyed it very much.
