Default For the five or six of us still remaining

Which passages of scripture move you the most, and for what reason, ideology, emotion, literature or whatever else?

A few which I find interesting, include the Genesis narrative, the Book of Job and many parts from Isaiah, including the descriptions of God's forgiveness and of Christ's sufferings. I also find the Gospel of John to be quite fascinating.

The Genesis is about God being intimate with his creations, that he knows each and every creation, that things are ordered unto God, and yet despite the numerosity of his creations, he personally deals with each of us.

And each of us, has our moments of faith, sacrifice, doubt and lack of obedience. I see it as a symbol of spiritual birth and awareness, of self-sufficiency and a commitment to a better way of living.

And knowing that Mark is perhaps the oldest of the gospels, its nakedness impresses me.

that's better than i would have thought. Is that what that number means?

I didn't mean any offense, and only perceive the numbers of persons who still post actively to be much lower. Apologies for numerical inaccuracy.

Are you serious?

I think it's a painfully misogynist attempt to explain our origins.

i don't look at it as a valid explanation of our origins. In that respect, I see it as a tribal effort to explain our origins and in that respect, it is quite quaint. Of course, if you refer to anything created during the United Kingdom time, you wouldn't expect to see anything but misgyny, but then you're missing the good of the tradition.

but if we remove the archaiac aspects to the explanations, and look at the good within the narrative, we can see a personal God interacting personally with his children. The being of one flesh is not to be taken literally, only to show they are of the same flesh, man and woman, both equal partners.

oh bulllloney.

equal partners?

Man (but not Woman) is made in the image of God. Woman is created out of man, literally an extension of him. In fact she is such an afterthought that in Genesis 2 we hear that after Adam was formed, God went to work building the entire garden of Eden and all the flora and fauna of creation before he decided to throw in a "helper" for Adam.

It is Woman who is deceived by the Serpent. It is she who is too weak to resist temptation, and it is through her that all sin and pain and toil enter the world.

equal partners, indeed.

Archie Bunker believed that the Bible proved men were superior to women because Eve was made from Adam's rib - a cheaper cut of meat.
