Billy Donovan to Orlando
Old news by now, but I think this is a good move. Donovan didn't just jump at the first NBA job that became available (Memphis). He's actually walking in to a pretty good situation in Orlando and with Grant Hill coming off the books this year, the Magic might have some wiggle room to get some more pieces to go around Dwight Howard.

These kind of situations are win/wins for guys like Pitino, Calapari and now Donovan...even if he gets fired he has a bunch of money, and will likely be a candidate for any top job in College should he choose to come back.

Florida will draw a big name coach, Machen will have nothing less.
I read that Mark Few is on the short list.

This will be an interesting domino effect again in college basketball. If Few is the one that gets the job, it will not have huge ripples in that Gonzaga would probably get an up and comer but not a real big name. If it is a coach from a big conference, it will be interesting.
If Few goes, look for Giacolleti to get the job...totally kidding. |

I know you are kidding, but I wonder who would be on Gonzaga's short list.

A few weeks ago ESPN mentioned that the top assistant at Syracuse would take over for Boeheim when he retires/leaves...would that be a good match? Boeheim to Florida?

Bill Grier, the assistant that just left Few's staff to take the San Diego job, would have been first in line. If Few leaves, he will be kicking himself for leaving about 3 months too early.
If Gonzaga does not promote from within, it will be interesting to see who they go after. A small school, not a real attractive city...but a nice 10 year run. It will be interesting. |
