Default Congress finishes new $621M visitors center

Quote:
The Capitol Visitors Center, which opened this morning, may have tripled its original budget and fallen years behind schedule, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid found a silver lining for members of Congress: tourists won't offend them with their B.O. anymore.

"My staff tells me not to say this, but I'm going to say it anyway," said Reid in his remarks. "In the summer because of the heat and high humidity, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol. It may be descriptive but it's true."
Just think of all the children in Darfur that $621M could have saved.

I don't know much about this, but I did see a headline in the local free paper that expressed excitement over the fact that now the tourists have an indoor place to wait. As a subway rider, I'm hoping that passes on to us as well--you can also really smell them on the subway.

And re the Darfur comment--I guess you got Senator Reid and all Dems with that one!

They weren't the target of that comment, but thanks for playing.
