Default Home teaching

Ran across a few interesting quotes on home teaching ...

Quote:
"The home teaching program with its crowning activity, the Family Home Evening, will neutralize the ill effects of the world only if people will apply the remedy."

- Spencer W. Kimball, 1975 Ensign

"There is no greater Church calling than that of a home teacher. ... Priesthood home teaching has the stamp of approval of our Father in Heaven. It is so vital that, if faithfully followed, it will help to spiritually renew the Church and exalt its individual members and families."

- Ezra Taft Benson, April 1987 General Conference

"Home teaching isn't about numbers or reporting visits to a home. Home teaching is about love of people and service to and watchcare over our Heavenly Father's children."

- M. Russell Ballard, October 2006 General Conference

"A home teaching call is to be accepted as if extended to you personally by the Lord Jesus Christ."

- Ezra Taft Benson, April 1987 General Conference

Yeah, I took the opportunity yesterday to warn my family to prepare food storage, as recently instructed in the Ensign.

I like FHE. I think it has served me and my family well.

But you know you have a problem when you have to say that a program (such as HT) "isn't about the numbers." Where would people get the idea that it is? Maybe from the fact that the "numbers" are what are counted.

Just because numbers are counted doesn't mean numbers are what count.

PS. Why is "numbers" in "quotes"? Are you questioning whether numbers are really "numbers"?

My point was that I wasn't aware the FHE and HT were the same thing. And if you think the "numbers" are accurate, I'm quite sure they're not. Which isn't to say that they have no value or that no info can be gleaned. But I dn't know whether that's what SIEQ meant.

In my experience, the one has a tendency to become the other.

I'm just questioning their accuracy. Anytime you have "prestige bias" you have reason to question accuracy.
