Nobody was better than Barry Sanders at those quick starts and stops; nobody was better at avoiding taking a clean head on hit than he was. I didn't grow up watching Jim Brown or Gayle Sayers (I'll let Arch talk about those guys) or Marion Motley (I'll leave that one to BYU71) but when you mention greatest back of all time, Walter Payton and Barry Sanders are the two guys from my generation that I think have to be included in the list.

Being the lifelong Cowboys fan that I've been....I have no illusions about one simple thing:
If Barry Sanders hadn't of retired so early, he, Not Emmitt Smith would be the all-time leading rusher. I love watching Sanders.

Sanders was awesome. When he retired in 1997 or 1998 (can't remember exact year) I held out hope that he would come back and play for my 49ers. Barry Sanders + Steve Young + Jerry Rice would have been an amazing trio, even though all of them were in the downside of their careers. Too bad it never happened. |
