BYU Admissions
Have some friends with a daughter who is a junior and just took the SAT. Has a 3.9 GPA and got a 1790 total, 1190 on math/reading. My thought is that seems like a low score given her GPA. Her mom also says she doesn't think she studied a whole lot. My thought is a good SAT prep course, some software etc. over the rest of the summer and then take it again in the fall and she should do much better.
The other thought would be to take the ACT since BYU prefers it. Thoughts?

She should stay the hell away from BYU, especially a girl. Anyway, how high an SAT does she need to get in there?

I believe she needs about a 2100 equivalent to make into BYU. An ACT of 27 or higher usually suffices to slide in with a straight A report card.

I thought the max score for the SAT was 1600. Did it change?

I'll admit to being an old man here. In my day a 1600 was a perfect SAT score. What is it now?

2400 ... kind of. BYU only looks at 2 of the 3 sections. The Writing portion is disregarded. So in the case above, she got 600 on the Reading and 590 on the math for 1190. The writing was 600 as well but that doesn't count.

The max score on the ACT changed as well. Used to be that a 35 was a perfect score. Not sure what it is now but it's higher than that.

I dont' see why she couldn't get in. There were a lot more stupid people I knew growing up that got in.

I am pretty sure the max score is 36 and always has been.

My claim to fame among all you smart people is my ACT score. I never took it in HS. Went on a mission when I was 20 and had to take it when I got to Ricks on provisional admission. So I had been out of school for 4 years at the time I took it. And took it cold because it didn't matter as I was already in school.
32 is not bad under those circumstances.
