Default I have to credit BYU admin for one thing

for not starting a medical school. It would be a disaster on so many levels that I wouldn't even be able to keep track. I don't care how much donors give.

Recall that the church used to own 15 hospitals but divested itself of them in the 70s (I think). I seem to recall that the reasons were complex, but among them were the fact that medicine is often the front line of many ethical issues that the chruch would prefer not to become embroiled in.

For example, someone correct me if I am wrong, the church has not been forced to take a position on stem cell research. If it had a hospital or a medical school it would.

Certainly there was as good or better undergrad available in my home state.

I met my wife at institute at the U. I wonder if any one here will say that there was some greater benefit to being educated in Utah that having met their spouse there. Other than that one enormous benefit, I personally think I would have been better off never having been to Utah. One small example of this is that I would never been exposed to the most negative aspects of mormon culture. I think I could have gone through life blissfully ignorant of most of those aspects and been better off for it.

Spouse selection is a primary reason to seek education within Utah.

If I had been married early on, I imagine I would not have sought to remain there. And some of us need as many gals to pick from, just to get one to consent.

those of us who didn't grow up in AZ, NV, CA, WA, or ID don't have good school options in those states.

When I mean good options, I mean a good school that is reasonably priced (dang out of state tuition).

And the NYC LDS girls are either models/actresses waiting tables or lawyers/bankers/consultants making bank. Not a bad selection indeed.

I suspect that DC also would have an out of wack single LDS female ratio.
Well I wasn't aware of that when I first joined and the only chance I thought to get gals to say yes was to be with masses. Now, if somebody had informed me of that, I might have gone with my first and second choices for schooling, Stanford undergrad and Virginia law.

So are you embarrassed to have a degree from BYU on your resume?

Not a smartass question. An honest one.

At my stage of practice, nobody even cares where I studied.

I made many friends at BYU whom I will always cherish. I was allowed to ski on pristine slopes while others were studying hard. I would have liked to have better access to networking with big money, that a Stanford or Virginia would have provided.

My association with Rex Lee alone probably made my days there worth it, but some place else may have been enjoyed as well. Elliott Butler also made it worth it.

There is no embarrassment with BYU, but due to small money and the short time span that BYU has had money, it does limit access to real cash, that an Ivy league education provides. Some of my Harvard grads were always getting the best referrals from big money, just based on being Harvard law grads.
