Default Do you know any women who left the church over

The Emma Smith story?

My sister has been rocked by it and is having a difficult time reconcile some things that one of her friends who converted from LDS to Catholicism told her and a book that was written about Emma Smith that she gave her. I can't remember the name of the book.

Anything I can read or study up on that you would suggest?

You must be referring to the practice of polygamy and specifically polyandry. Bushman gives the subject a lot of attention in his new work Rough Stone Rolling.

Maybe this is just bias on my part, but it is rare for me to meet someone who is into church history, and even rarer for that person to be female.

Some people encounter tough stuff, and then just fold the tent. Others are willing to wrestle and study. I would encourage her to learn as much as possible about it. Suggested readings. A conversation or two with a knowledgeable member.

Heck, invite her on here. I've long thought it would be great to have a forum where both LDS men women could talk.

Since talking to LDS women is especially verboten, it seems.
