Default are we as LDS generally "results based" in our ethics?

Just something I've thought about. It's just always seemed to me that many or most of us buy into the end justifies the means philosophy. Maybe we get this from Nephi and Laban. I don't know. I've never been a big fan of that ethical approach. I tend to believe corrupt means usually don't lead to a pure ends and that Satan likes to use this rationalization to get people to do something bad with the deception that they're doing it for a good purpose in the end.

Mormons are the descendants of hardscrabble unrooted poor Europeans who became poor farmers in deserts. That's where the "practicality" comes from.
