Get those DVR's queued up
Ken Burns' new PBS series on WWII starts on Sunday. Reviews indicate that it is outstanding. I can't wait.

Bummer.
Fortunately for me, it comes in HD on Comcast. But the hard drive on my tuner isn't very big so I had to clean house last night. My daughter is not going to be happy when she finds all of these episodes of Hannah Montana have been deleted.

If it is half as good as The Civil War, it will be outstanding.
If it is half as good as Baseball, it will be outstanding. And as mp so eloquently stated: "It would have to be 1000x better than Jazz to be worth a shit." I'm looking forward to it.

Unfortunately, we have an older Tivo with only about a 40-hour HDD, so I won't be able to keep them on very long. It looks like 3 of the episodes are 2 1/2 hrs and the others are 2 hours each.
This also makes me want to watch Svaing Private Ryan and Band of Brothers again to pull everything together. I saw that you can pre-order the DVD on the PBS site for $120.

Probably depends where you are. For Utah, it comes on the KUED HD channel at 6 pm and again at 8:30 pm. It comes on KUED SD at 8 pm and again at 11 pm.

Just finished watching the last episode tonight from my DVR. It completely lived up to my expectations. Fabulous series all the way around.
I especially enjoyed getting to know the primary interviewees. Burns and Novak said that by the end of the series, they wanted the viewers to consider these folks to be like family. Mission accomplished. I thought Paul Fussell, Quentin Aanenson, Glen Frazier, and Ray Leopold were particularly good. Intelligent, insightful, eloquent, and warm. Katherine Philips was great also. I was sad to learn that Ray Leopold passed away recently. It was a pity that Eugene Sledge passed away in 2001. From his writings, he sounds like a fascinating man. The letter written but never sent by Aanenson was a particularly powerful moment. But there were so many others. If any of you missed it, I highly recommending getting the DVD set. You will not be sorry. Any other parting thoughts?

How about that part where the soldier who was in a Japanese POW camp finally comes home to San Fran at the end of the war and gets to make a phone call to his family? His family had been told four years earlier that he was dead. His mother answers the phone and faints. His aunt picks up the receiver and faints. His sister picks up the receiver and faints. Then his dad walks in the room and finds three unconscious women. He picks up the phone, talks to his son and says "I always knew you were still alive." What a great story.
