So the big 10 is thinking expansion
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/colle...xpansion_N.htm
its been rumored that Missouri after ND of course would go quickly to the big 10. If that happened who would be in the Big 12 North. I think it would be a 3 team race 1. TCU 2. BYU 3. Utah I am not sure of the order of likelyhood

Louisville would be a huge consideration and I think they'd make the jump from the Big East to the Big 10 in a nano-second. Geographically it's pretty much impossible to even consider BYU or Utah. TCU might have the TV market, but they don't have the facilities or the fanbase support at all.

Doesn't Colorado make one of the Utah schools a great pair?

Let's see, a private Mormon school or a private Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) school? Yes, why would anyone want the University of Utah?

Remember it's Utah fans that care about BYU, not the other way around.

Missouri to the Big 10. They already have a rivalry with Illinois, and while they lose one with Kansas to a degree, Missouri has a pretty large television market and would be a natural fit in the Big 10. They have always been a bit of an oddball for the Big 12. The Big 12 then needs a team. I think CSU might be seriously considered. No, they don't have the facilities right now, but a little BCS funding would turn that around in a minute. If not them, TCU would also be a strong contender. BUT, if the Big 12 is looking for television revenue, BYU would be a strong candidate, simply because of the national fan base (the state of Utah is mildly exciting for television revenue, but BYU's national presence gives them an edge over Utah). This could get interesting. If the Big 10 actually gets a 12th team, the Pac 10 could also feel some serious pressure to expand. I wouldn't be surprised to see them take another shot at Colorado. BYU, Utah, and SDSU could all be possibilities. Fresno St. is an academic wastehole, so they wouldn't ever be considered (I think). |

You want to have a strong enough conference that the loss of your two best teams won't end the conference. Take away BYU, Utah and possibly TCU/CSU, and you are left with one crappy conference. At least this (unrealistically) makes me think of the possibility that soon the mtn will be the problem of those poor schmucks left in the MWC while BYU is playing SC and UCLA from now on in the Pac 10. If the Big 12 takes another team (like TCU, I think they also boot Baylor and create another vacancy). Could they try taking Illinois and holding Missouri? Then the Big 10 would have to look to the Big East even more- WV and Louisville/Rutgers? This could destroy the Big East, the MWC and the WAC, but could be fantastic for BYU and Utah if the cards fall right. Then the MWC, WAC and Big East would have to form a superconference, taking the best of those 3 and leaving the worst. Last edited by Cali Coug; 07-27-2007 at 04:03 AM. |
