Default Couples Missionaries vs. Mission Presidents

It's interesting how being called as a Mission President is viewed as hugely prestigious in the church, just short of being called as a minor general authority....but imagine how prestigious it would be, to be called as a regular couples missionary.

Most couples would turn that down in a heartbeat.

In fact, I think it would be so unsuccessful, that that is the reason they don't do it.

Back in my old ward, I understand that the Bishopric was instructed to prayerfully select a couple to invite to go on a mission. Not a calling, but not waiting for random volunteers either.

Maybe the couples that choose to serve missions without being asked, deserve a little bit more respect and praise. Not that they do it for that reason. The gap between mission presidency couples and volunteer couple missionaries needs to be closed.
