Guitar Hero
I'd never played this before til' Christmas Day.
My Girlfriend bought the entire series of games, plus 2 controllers for her 2 kids. I was stunned at how easy the game is......until I realized that I was playing only the Easy level. So then I go to medium level...and it's still really easy. Then I tried the Hard level and got my ass thoroughly kicked. Still for never having played it before it's a fun game and with a little geeky over-practice I'm pretty sure I can "Finish" the game in a short period of time.

My wife bought GH3 just before Christmas. It's very cool, but I got bored with it already. The songs get pretty hard toward the end of Medium, and I can get through most songs on hard. After watching videos of "Through the fire and flames" (I think that's what it's called) on expert, I don't have any desire to get that good at it.
Here's a 9-year-old playing it on expert: http://www.break.com/index/9-year-ol...ero-level.html |

This is what happens when kids start playing Guitar Hero. Notice the emotionless expression on their once very much alive faces.
My boys have become zombies. But they've stopped fighting.

In our home, we award extra points for style and stage presence. A score of 1-10 is awarded by the audience with 10 being a perfect style/stage presence score. The number is then multiplied by 10,000 and added to the game's score so that it makes competition interesting, and enjoyable for those watching you play. So my son is back from college for a holiday break and in a gathering at a friend's house he displays his remarkable prowess on GH, nailing all of the expert songs thrown at him. This is impressive becasue he could not do this before leaving for college. He is now revered as a guitar God by all the senior primary and aaronic priesthood boys in our ward. As his father, I ma very gratified to see that his time and my tuition dollars were not completely squandered this fall.
