BYU a BCS buster???
I am of the opinion that our two toughest games this year were in week one and week two. BYU easily dispatched Arizona. Now we have to see what they can do against UCLA on the road, a much tougher test.
IF they get past UCLA, it is hard to see who could beat them. Tulsa on the road doesn't scare me, particularly after watching their first game (not impressive to say the least). TCU looks good on defense, but they played Baylor who is simply terrible. Think Utah St. but in the Big 12. After watching the TCU game, I am not afraid of them. Utah looks plain awful. CSU will be good, but I think Wyoming could be our toughest game after UCLA. On the road in Laramie- could end the BCS run. That said, BYU CRUSHED them last year, and Wyoming isn't THAT improved. BYU should win. AFA? UNLV? SDSU? All lousy. Our schedule has us set up for a BCS run if we start off 2-0. And I think UCLA is beatable. We get Tonga and Hooks back, Hall has a game of experience (and will play against worse DBs than what he saw against AZ and did well against). Unga is for real. The defense is fast and furious. 12-0? Let me say, I think it is a real possibility. Barring any future injuries. And, to really take the heat from the many Ute fans on here, if BYU goes BCS bowling this year, next year looks outstanding to make some REAL national noise. Next year's team could be the best at BYU in over a decade. Combine that fact with a high preseason national ranking, and it could be magical. Am I drinking the cool aid? Maybe, but it tastes sooo good at the moment!!! |

Bottom line: 1-0 is still a ways off from 12-0. Best thing I heard from yesterday's press conferences was Stoops' line about BYU not caring about media, but going out and winning.

Assuming everything goes your way, how bad to you think the SOS hurdle will be for a MWC team this year? Did Boise finally wake people up? Honestly, I would love to see a BCS busting BYU... As long as they win... If they lose it's just another excuse for BCS teams to write off non BCS conf. teams. Utah - Boise - Byu? Suddenly the west would be getting some respect. |

The problem is the 2 Non-BCS teams to bust the BCS were both ranked in the pre-season polls before the first game.
BYU is not. And that would be quite an unprecedented mountain to climb because rankings fit into the BCS formula now. Still I think it's too early to talk about any BCS Buster....however 08 and 09 could be VERY special seasons.

In theory, they could keep ANY team out of the BCS by just leaving them out of the rankings early on... |
