Default The most underrated musician of our generation

Prince.

Watch his guitar solo at the end of my favorite George Harrison song:

Prince is incredibly underrated. No one ever recognizes how good this guy is on the guitar. He has a live disk out there with a version of Joy in Repitition where he just tears up his guitar solo. Sounds like the reincarnation of Eddie Hazel (the best funk guitarist of all time). In fact I listened to that song on the train to work today.

I think people are just saying that you don't hear much Prince on the radio, considering his talent and universal acclaim.

For some reason Prince has never clicked with me. And I have pretty broad musical tastes.

I love Prince, dude is amazing. At his concert one of his band members, which included, the drums, sax, keyboard, bass guitar, electric guitar, bongos, etc, said that he played the every single instrument in his band better than the band members who specialized on their specific instrument.

Best concert I have been to hands down was Prince, seeing him in real life blows everything I have heard, or seen on tv of the dude.

It's not just the songs he recorded. He's written tons of songs for other artists, many of which I'm sure you've heard.

This will give you an idea of what he's done:

Here's a list of his writing credits for songs recorded by other artists:

I say Prince is underrated because no one ever talks about his abilities at playing guitar. He is a great songwriter and most people acknowledge that, but no one acknowledges that he can tear it up on the guitar.

He may be the single greatest musician in terms of musical talent that has come along in many years. He doesn't just play a lot of instruments - he plays them as well as anyone.

I've seen him in multiple lists (by musicians and music journalists) as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. (probably top 50 or 75).

He is as multi-faceted a musician as there is today.

I think he can be considered a musical genius. However, he is also very eccentric, and his musical preferences run in the R & B and pop genre, so maybe I should clarify my statement by saying he's the most underrated by the mainstream. I don't listen to his music a lot, but I can't deny his ability as a musician.

Additionally he is the most underrated basketball player out there.
