Default The impending disaster--food crisis

Remember when I told you that wheat prices were going crazy? http://www.cougarguard.com/forum/sho...ighlight=wheat

Well it looks like the media has caught up and there has been a lot of press about soaring food prices throughout the world.

This is not a huge tragedy in America, but it is turning into a huge tragedy in the rest of the world. Where some people spend 80% of their income on food.

If you buy wheat commercially, it is now 2 -3 times more expensive to get food storage.

Here's an interesting article that says part of the problem is speculation by investors, artificially driving up prices.

The international situation: http://www.cougarguard.com/forum/new...newthread&f=12

Are we headed to an economic global crisis?

Is it time for this county to start growing corn solely for food rather than for fuel?

I've always felt that the ethanol thing was another Bush boondoggle.

However, it probably isn't the major cause of these food prices.

You're correct. I read your post too quickly and on 2nd look, you were talking about global price increases rather than domestic.

After reading the posts on this board lately, I think I will find out where you doom and gloomers can get ahold of Howard Ruff's, the Coming Rough Times.

Maybe he was 30 years early and you can get his advice on what to do.

I know people who went out and bought a ton of wheat and flour as they anticipated this price increase. I wondered if this contributed to the price increase.

I'm kidding. Mostly.

Umm, for those of you who think this isn't a problem, if you read some articles you will find out there have been RIOTS in several countries already over this.

So esp. those of you that carry your year's supply in your girth, you can sit back in your wealth and not worry about food prices, but trust me, there are people whose lives are on the line.

Do you suppose there have never been riots in other countries over these issues in the past?

To quote the late, great Sam Kineson: Those people need to move to where the food is.
