Read in the SLTrib today that Bogut endorsed Giac and said that guys on the team should be working harder...which I tend to agree with.
With Nevill, Bryant and Green, I think there is talent to build around. I know that many have labled this team as average talent wise and perhaps they are, but someone has to light a fire under these kids and if Giac can't do it, he should be gone. However, one of these players needs to take a leadership role. In my mind, the biggest gamble Giac took as head coach was sacrificing senior leadership to get his own guys in there. As such, you don't have anyone to get in a guy like Shawn Green's face and tell him to get going. I know that Bogut had a lot of natural ability, but he made a huge leap from his Freshman year to his Sophmore year and I would think that at least some of the credit for that should go to Giac. With 4 more new guys coming in next year and a nucleous that is getting older...the team has a chance to get better. I will not be surprised if Giac stays because I think that any coach deserves 4 years. But I also won't be surprised if he goes...the Bogut endorsement can only help him I would think...unless Hill only cares about the famous alumns when they open up their wallets.

I have mentioned this before, but if Hill wants to fire Giac, he will do so this year and not wait. The simple reason is that the Utes will be better next year simply because they will be older and they can't be any worse. So firing him next year would become problematic if they get even to .500. "Hey, I coached this team to an improvement of 7 games, you gotta keep me."
I believe it was the reason that Crowton was fired. Crowton had the team set up for that next year and BYU saw that...leave Crowton, he improves a little because the talent is there and then you are stuck with him for a few more years. They had to make the change and it also gives the new coach a real chance at being successful right off the bat. Of course Bogut is going to support Giac. Rarely will a player ever complain about a current coach at his old school. I think Giac is gone for 2 reasons: A real regression of this team from last year and over the past 10 games. And second, the worst attendence in over 30 years. |

You act like it's Hill's choice. It's not up to him; he's not his own master. If he wants to maintain his own job security, that is. Why should he self-immolate for Giacoletti? This isn't Hill's decision anymore.
