Default Eating Pig.

My Chinese coworkers often ask why we will never eat dogs or cats. I explain to them that we don't eat cats and dogs partly because they're our companions and also because they're so intelligent.

However, I've been thinking about this lately, and I'm wondering why we have no problem eating pigs, since they are also very intelligent mammals.

Homer: Are you saying you're never going to eat any animal again? What about bacon?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Ham?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Pork chops?
Lisa: Dad, those all come from the same animal.
Homer: Heh heh heh. Ooh, yeah, right, Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal.

We can choose not to. We have enough options that we can eat the best tasting animals. I've never, ever heard that dogs and cats can be bred to taste good. In fact, isn't it more grain eating animals that taste good? Name one carnivorous animal widely eaten outside China. I can't think of any.

That may have something to do with the incredible cost of raising carnivorous animals for consumption. A farm would have to raise animals to feed their other animals.

Apparently humans taste quite a bit like pork. I read somewhere recently that some cannibals called humans "long pig." Also, my father would never have pork cooked in our home, because he smelled quite a bit of burnt flesh when he was in Vietnam and it smelled just like pork.
He did eat dog, cat and rat while in Vietnam, and monkey while in African and reported that all were not bad.
