Nice quote, and so true. Although his policies are generally diametrically opposed to my political leanings, it's hard not to like him when he comes up with quotes like these.

I first voted in 1980, and I've voted Republican for President every time. I'll probably grudgingly vote for McCain if it is Obama, although I'm considering a third party candidate. I'm still of the mind to vote for Hillary in the unlikely event she is the Democratic candidate.

This tax holiday is a joke, though it might not have the effect that Clinton and McCain think it would. It would only tell me that taxes are a ripoff.

What I would rather see is for Big Oil to subpoena Congress, state and local politicians to explain why all the taxes drive up the cost of a gallon of gas.

The entertainment value alone would be very high.

It's ok guys, Hillary has a long term plan too!

This afternoon in Indiana, Clinton said she has both a short-term plan -- the gas tax holiday -- and long-term plan -- energy efficiency and green-collar jobs -- to deal with high gas prices.

IMO, the fuel tax is a very commonsense and fair tax. It's purely based on consumption and it has a dedicated purpose of maintaining roads and highways. Essentially it's a user fee.

I agree that it serves it's purpose.

My point is that while Congress was demanding that Big Oil justify their profits, they conveniently ignored the fact that taxes are a nice big chunk of the cost. There are enough factors that have pushed the cost up that oil companies don't have to shoulder all the blame.
