BUrley is an Oregon company that has a long and good reputation among tandem makers (they also make trailers). I have heard anecdotally that the last few years in particualr they have had financial troubles and that their best frame builders/designers have left (it is a copperative type operation) and that their quality has suffered. I have no idea if this is accurate or not, but it is somethign to think about if the frame is new.

From the photos I can't tell enough about this bike to have much of an opinon but I do note that the timing chain is far too loose in the photo on the left, which probabyl speakes to inadieqaute maintenance and something you want to look at carefully (on a tandem the front bottom bracket is usually adjustable to allow for timing chain adjustment and sometimes that can get mucked up). OTOH, $500 for a burley is somethign that would certianly make me look a little harder, as it is a pretty good price.

Amen. The little trailers are more than $300.

yeah!! Incidentally, if anyone's looking to pick up a good deal on a trailer...

Mike, I checked and it looks like Burley (though I could be wrong) has discontinued its bike manufacturing altogether. That might (or might not?) be something to take into consideration.

That makes sense, althogh I woldn't worry about that too much, as the condition of the compnents ismore important on a used bike, especailyl a tandem for only $500.
