Forgive me Ute fans for bringing up...
NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR
But the 84 Holiday Bowl was on BYUTV last night. A couple things I was reminded of: 1. Bosco is the MAN! 2. Back then O Linemen actually looked like football players. The center, Craig Garrick (RIP) was probably no more than 270. Pretty nimble guy - when Bosco was being chased out of the pocket, Garrick came flying out of nowhere to lay a monster block that prevented a sack. 3. Had some great defenses back then. Leon White was all over the place. 4. BYU was plagued by turnovers and penalties even back in the glory days. The Cougs dominated the Wolverines but kept shooting themselves in the foot with penalties and mostly unforced turnovers. But they made the plays when they had to. As an eleven year old watching the game live, I was an emotional train-wreck. It's interesting that all these years later and knowing the outcome, I experienced a bit of the same emotions, both good and bad, last night. |

I've still yet to see that game. I've seen a few highlights, but that's it.

I'd appreciate it. I want to see how that BYU team clinched it's MNC with a win over the incredibly talented Michigan team that was loaded with All-Americans and was, without a doubt, the greatest 6-5 team in the history of football.

Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!! Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith. |
