Default Mormons: The Fourth Abrahamic Religion

This article is interesting. I could find an emphasis on "Abrahamic" appealing in a number of ways. I sure prefer it to "cult."

I still get upset when they won't let us call ourselves Christian. I'll never get over that.

Taking this in a different direction...but for example, for my Hebrews gospel doctrine study, I read this

http://wesley.nnu.edu/wesleyan_theol...6-20/16-13.htm

This is a 10+ page analysis of the book of Hebrews which covers topics such as:

grace/works
faith
sanctification
importance of obeying commandments
divinity of Jesus
relationship of God the Father and Jesus the Son
atonement
role of sacrifice in Old Testament

If LDS can read this and agree 100% with the doctrinal analysis on so many key topics, can't Christians allow us to call ourselves a subset of Christianity?

More interesting to me is the paradox of wanting to a peculiar people on one hand and craving the acceptance of those who we would convert on the other.

How about a peculiar people who would like to be recognized as a people who rely on Jesus Christ for their salvation?

But then it gets into "yeah they rely on Christ, but not very much, because they think they do a lot of the grunt work on their own."

I fall on the side of not wanting to bridge the gap between Mormonism and modern Christianity.

Everytime a Christian calls a Mormon a non-Christian, they do it by minimizing our belief in the Savior and a mischaracterization of us as polytheists. I really don't think it's because of some general craving of acceptance that I don't like this being done to us. I don't crave acceptance by Buddhists or Moslems or Jews.

And that's a good point. I don't really care. I find it amusing for someone else to tell me I'm not a Christian.

Reminds me of the time I pissed off a guy by telling him that Christ was a Christian.

Nothing about my religious beliefs is more important than Jesus as Savior. And nothing is more offensive to me in a religious sense than someone trying to tell me that's not what I believe or I believe it in a less powerful way than a Christian.
